Annie Smith Obituary

Annie Martha Smith, born March 15th 1996 passed away on August 9, 2016 at the age of 20 years old. She is survived by her loving mother Karen Joy Smith; siblings Ross, Stephen, James, Natalie, Mitchell, Vanessa, Joni, Robert, Rebecca; biological mother Dea and sister Tananda; 20+ nieces & nephews, and numerous others whom loved her dearly.

Annie was a joyful soul, her frequency for smiling only outnumbered by her daily change in wardrobe. She was very fond of conversation; and one could say she mastered the art of small talk before she was even out of diapers. She loved all things pink and extremely high heels. As a child she participated in Awana, Champion camp, Durango Youth Soccer, and many activities at Cross Bar X youth camp. She was raised in the church and spent many years participating in various bible study groups.

Annie earned her C.N.A license (Certified Nursing Assistant) at just 16 years old. She would go on to spend the next 4 years serving the community in that facet. She enjoyed working with the elderly and the sense of purpose it provided.

The transition from childhood to adulthood is never an easy one, and Annie's proved more difficult than most. It's rare one escapes life without spending some time in dark places, and while most eventually escape, Annie's struggle offered no redemption. Annie's life ended due to drug overdose. We pray the honesty surrounding Annie's death will serve to deter those with struggles of this nature.

A memorial service will be held at the Lion's Den (overlooking Durango) on Saturday August 20th at 5:00 PM, everyone is invited. A Facebook page titled Annie Smith Memorial has been created, all are welcome to participate in sharing memories, words, and photos.

Sending my love and prayers to your beautiful family. I'm sorry I won't be there today to celebrate sweet Annie. I met you all at Bible study and looked forward too seeing the girls and hearing them share and read God's word. Annie was sweet and bubbly, she'll be missed. I will keep your family in my prayers. Love and hugs, Trish

My heart is broken. I worked with Annie a few times. She was precious and right away we talked as if we had known each other a long time. She told me she wanted to go on to her RN. She was so sweet and kind to the patients. She was full of great energy and that kind of energy lives on forever.

Annie helped take care of my husband, Greg, at Cottonwood. Her zest for life and exuberance filled his room when she entered. I am saddened her energy has left this life but pray Greg and Annie's spirits connect in the next. God bless her soul.

This really hit me hard when I saw this. Annie was a good friend of mine, and it hurt me to see that she;d gone so soon. She will be missed and her family will be in my prayers.

I am so saddened to read about Annie. She was such a friendly and helpful young lady to me when I was President of Blue Star Mothers. She always was at our parades and willing to help with anything I needed help with. I hope she is at peace now. She is certainly gone way too soon . Sending much love to Karen and the family. My prayers are with you.

I remember her smile first and foremost! I was aware of her journey into the drug scene and was heartbroken to hear of her passing! And even though we no longer have an earthly hope that she will be victorious over drugs... We have an eternal hope! She is at perfect peace and will never struggle again! For those left behind... Let's reach out to God and others when we need help to overcome difficulty AND to Annie's family... We love you and grieve with you!!! I will continue to pray for you as you walk through this difficult time!!
