Alton Jameson Obituary

Durango resident Alton T. Jameson died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Mercy Regional Medical Center. He was 84.

Mr. Jameson was born July 10, 1925, in Idalou, Texas, but had lived in the Durango area since he was 3 months old. He

attended Bayfield High School until he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a scout in the 10th Mountain Division in

Italy. When he was 76, he received his high school diploma in a special ceremony at the school, 59 years after he

left BHS to enlist.

On May 4, 1946, he married Ruth Batchelor. The couple had a double wedding with Mr. Jameson's uncle and his fiancée

before a justice of the peace in Albuquerque.

For 33 years, Mr. Jameson installed PBX systems, internal business phone systems with outside lines, for Mountain

Bell Telephone Co.

In his spare time, he liked to do anything outdoors, his family said. In the winter, Mr. Jameson enjoyed skiing,

snowmobiling and snowshoeing. In the summer, in addition to farming, he enjoyed riding horses and four-wheeling.

Mr. Jameson was a member of the Colorado Mounted Rangers for more than 30 years. He also was a member of the Durango

Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mr. Jameson is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Ruth Jameson, of Durango; sons Lance Jameson of Durango and

Roy Jameson of Cortez; daughter, Cheryl Godfrey, of Wooster, Ohio; sister Viola Padilla of Aztec; six grandchildren;

and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at the Durango Seventh-day Adventist Church,

1775 Florida Road.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Home Health Care, Mercy Regional Medical Center, 1010 Three Springs Blvd.,
