Kristy Dougherty Obituary

Former Durango resident Kristy Lynn Dougherty died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, in Brandon, Fla. She was 45. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Ms. Dougherty was born to Ron and Marilyn (Mistler) Dougherty on June 1, 1965, in Grand Junction. She grew up in Durango and graduated from Durango High School in 1983. Ms. Dougherty earned a bachelor's degree from Fort Lewis College and also attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

She worked as a computer-software consultant.

In the late 1980s, she married Dean Farrell in Denver. The marriage later ended in divorce.

Ms. Dougherty's passion was dance, and most recently she enjoyed spending time perfecting her salsa moves.

"Kristy was a loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend," her family wrote. "Her infectious smile and radiant spirit touched the lives of all who were blessed to know Kristy. Kristy's children were the light of her life, and she spent many hours sharing in their activities."

Ms. Dougherty is survived by her children Jessica Farrell, Brad Farrell and Shelbi Farrell, all of Oviedo, Fla.; mother, Marilyn Dougherty, of Palm Springs, Calif.; sister, Kellie Willis, of Cortez; brother, Kirk Dougherty, of Palm Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at T. Chase McPherson Memorial Chapel at FLC, 1000 Rim Drive in Durango.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Axis Health Systems, P.O. Box 1328, Durango, CO 81302.
