Frank Bernard Pacheco, 66, died of cancer Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at home in Durango surrounded by family and friends.
Mr. Pacheco was born Sept. 29, 1947, in the Mexican Flats neighborhood of Durango to Frank Joe Pacheco and Frances E. Montoya Pacheco. Mr. Pacheco lived all of his life in Durango. He attended Smiley Junior High.
He married Rose Mary Lucero on Dec. 18, 1965, and they had four children together.
Mr. Pacheco was employed at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for 27 years as senior track patrolman.
He enjoyed telling stories from his days working on the railroad and playing pool. He especially loved his animals and watching his favorite team, the Denver Broncos.
The family remembers his favorite sayings were "Plan ahead so you don't fall behind" and "Common sense makes common knowledge."
Mr. Pacheco is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rose Mary Pacheco of Durango; daughters LaDonna Manore of Durango and Michelle Salazar of Farmington; sons Frank Pacheco Jr. and Lenard Pacheco, both of Farmington; sisters Laverne Pacheco of Durango, Dorothy Delgado of Farmington, Josephine Escojeda of Farmington; brother, Robert Pacheco of Durango; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Gallegos of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
