Viola "Vi" Schaerer Obituary
Viola "Vi" Schaerer, died 10/17/18. She was 96. Born to Elmer and Johnnie Wright on 5/2/22, in Wichita Falls, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband(s) Joseph George Schaerer (kindest man), Stanley Folsom (funniest man) and her beloved Chili. Vi and Joe came to Durango on 6-6-66 and built, owned and operated Hermosa Meadows Campground until 1972. They built their dream home in Hermosa Valley and Vi became a successful realtor, jewelry designer, and a incredible oil painter. They owned and operated Parson's Luncheonette from 1977-78 and the Thunderbird Lodge from 1978-81. Vi served on the Hotel Motel Association, Animas Valley Sewage Board and worked at Fort Lewis College. In 1984 she graduated with her GED, attended Fort Lewis College (FLC) and made the Dean's List. At FLC she discovered her love of poetry and had her work published. Vi had a vision and molded it into a living dream, transformed canvas into a view of nature, and bake a taste of heaven. She enjoyed gardening, viewing nature and loved unconditionally. She is survived by her children, Mary Kay (Henry) Matthew, Patricia (Roy) Bacon, Gerry (Christy) Schaerer, Ana (Marty) Woodward, nephew Alton Wright (Joseph Parasso), sister Cathrine, niece Sandy, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
