Marie was born on August 22nd 1951 in Houston, Texas. After high school, she moved to Austin, Texas where after several years of working, she was offered the opportunity to work for a rafting company in Big Bend National Park. The company moved to Durango, Colorado and she went with them.
In Durango, she began to take on the management of properties, eventually becoming the building manager of the largest professional building in town, The West Building. She managed the West Building in Durango for many years, and one of her proudest professional achievement was upgrading it to LEED certification (national standard for environmentally friendly buildings).
In 1991, she gave birth to her daughter, Kelly, from her first marriage to Jim Fuge. In 2005, she married Lynn Walz. They traveled extensively throughout the world and had numerous adventures. After many wonderful years of raising her daughter and taking care of the West Building, she retired in 2013. She and Lynn moved to Lafayette, Colorado in 2014 to enjoy retirement.
Marie was extremely active and had many passions. She enjoyed hiking and being outdoors in the mountains and desert. One of her major personal accomplishments was rowing 20,000 cfs in Crystal Rapids in the Grand Canyon. She was an avid gardener, becoming an officer of the Boulder Gardening Club. She was also part of Together We Rise, and along with her book club, sewing club and golfing outings made many wonderful friends in her short time in Lafayette.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Friday, May 7th at Waneka Lake Park in Lafayette.
