Born June 5, 1940, Jack died peacefully in the presence of his family September 3, 2017 after battling a long illness, in Durango. Jack was born in Long Beach California, grew up in California and moved with his wife and children to Durango in 1970. He loved his ranch in Sunnyside where he raised hay and cattle. Sunnyside brought the joys of country life, good neighbors, 4-H and hard work. He also worked as a mechanic in the gas and oil industry.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Virginia (Gini) of Durango, Children John (Nicole) of Pleasanton Ca and Jennifer (Mike) of Red Wing, Mn and grandchildren Medary, Jack, Gabrielle (Ellie) and Paige. Sisters Peg (Don) Sower and Barbara Baker. The family would like to thank the Doctors and nurses at Mercy for the compassionate care and a special thanks to Brody and Chantel Otteson.

Preceded in Death by Father Jay Benton and Grandmother Helen Benton.

He will be greatly missed.

I worked with Jack at Century Equipment and always enjoyed his sense of humor and his friendly manner. He was a friend who was always interested in how those around him encountered life. I will always remember his great smile and easy laugh.
