Diana and I grew up across the street from each other at the north end of 25th and W. Third Ave. by “the trees,” and, “the swamp.”We were the same age, went to the same classes from early Needham Elementary through graduation from DHS 1966.
She was the All-American girl......tall,slender,blonde with a quick wit that could get everybody laughing and feeling good about themselves. But the best part of her, I think, was that she was always kind to everybody.

Diana and I had the best year in the sixth grade at Needham Elementary School. We were in Mrs Robins’ class. That is Joe Robins’ mother for those of you who remember Joe. We spent the summer cramming a life time of memories into the summer before Junior High where we would go separate ways: Diana to Miller Junior High and I to Smiley.
We spent entire days on our bikes. We rode all over Durango and up Junction Creek. We bought comic books and pixie sticks and spent the night at one of our houses. We played on the steep hill next to her parents house and played in the swamp below her parents home before the city drained it.
Diana went on Jeep rides with my family and I went on trips with her family. That’s a lot of kids in a car or a JJeep! How did our parents do it?
After that summer, we kept our friendship vibrantly alive until her death.
I will always remember her, and her sister and brothers, and her parents.
Words cannot express the loss of my dearest friend.

My memories of Diana are through my sister Kathy. They were best friends. There was a lot of laughter and a whole lot of shenanigans. They managed to spend a lot of time living at their respective homes. The Warren and Picoli parents were interchangeable.
Kathy misses her best friend. But she has many fond memories to sustain her for many years.
