Connie Trontel Obituary
Connie Trontel passed away on 10/26/2018 at the age of 98. She was born on 5/2/1920 to Dominick & Maude Bonaventura in Durango, CO. After graduation from Durango High School in 1937, she moved to Silverton, where she worked at the family owned Buttercup Bakery. Some of her fondest memories was her time in Silverton with family & friends. She moved to Rockford, IL with her brothers & sisters and worked as a telephone operator, but returned to Silverton and worked as the chief telephone operator. Her favorite story as an operator was when a fire broke out at a home in Silverton and the button she normally pushed to alert the volunteer firemen was frozen. She ran down the street and pulled the rope bell at the fire house to sound the alarm. She met and married Harry Trontel, in 1946. They had two children while living in Silverton. The family moved to Durango in 1953 where she was the personnel supervisor for F.W. Woolworth for 33 years. In her later years she was always pleased when someone would stop her on the street and tell her they remembered her from Woolworths. Connie volunteered at the Methodist Thrift Shop until she was 93. She always enjoyed her Tuesday & Thursday mornings at "work" and the wonderful people she worked with and met. Connie had a friendly, quiet demeanor and loved everyone she met. Her golden years were spent with grandchildren & great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Connie was a life long member of St. Columba Church and in her earlier years walked to church every Sunday. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980; brothers Nick & John Bonaventura; sisters, Margaret Phillips & Madeline Kucyznski. She is survived by her son Ed Trontel; daughter Mary Ann Trontel; brother Frank Bonaventura; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.

No services will be held per her request. Donations may be made to the Methodist Thrift Shop in her name.
