We were saddened to learn of Joe's passing upon returning from out of state today. Joe was not only considered a personal friend and confidant, but a true craftsman with a brilliant mechanical knowledge and mind. Working together on numerous YMCA projects was both enjoyable and satisfying. He will be missed by those of us who know well the numerous significant contributions he made to the greater Newark community. Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to his entire family.

Great sympathy and heartfelt wishes to all the family. I remember Joe fondly either through history class or hanging around the house. The Bowden house was always a fun home. Joe always harassed Sam Shaw and I whenever he 'busted' us kissing in the hallways. He was funny and quick with a line. My heart hurts for you and much love is sent your way.
