Joseph Paul Doucet, 94, of Waltham, Massachusetts passed away on January 16, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV. Joseph was a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He was a devout Catholic and volunteered in several church ministries.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife Marie (Bettencourt) of 75 years, sister Eileen (Robert, deceased) Young, sister Corinne Hart, sister Linda (Donald) Morrill, sons Stephen (Patricia) Doucet, Paul (Theresa, deceased) Doucet, Michael (Karen) Doucet, Donna Lamphear; his grandchildren Tammy (Lee) Evans, Jefferey Doucet, Kevin (Katie) Doucet, Brittany Doucet, Susan Doucet, Michael (Melissa) Doucet, Darryl Doucet, Ryan (Laura) Doucet, Christopher (Tara) Doucet, Joseph (Jordan) Lamphear, Tiffany (Wes) Knippers, and 25 Great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lena (LeBlanc) Doucet, his sister Bernice Richardson, his sister Sally (Jim) Lewis, his sister Claudette (Jimmy) White.
Joseph is remembered most for his unwavering love for Marie. Joseph was a faithful and loving husband, and a fantastic father.
In his younger years, he played hockey and was a life-long hockey fan – well before hockey became popular nationwide.
He served in the US Army and retired as a major from the Army Reserves Quarter Master Corps. He received a Bachelor’s Degree at Northeastern University, and for many years he was a Purchasing Manager in the electronics industry. In 1968, Joseph and family moved west to California where they settled until his retirement.
After his retirement Joseph and Marie moved to Las Vegas, NV where he became an avid volunteer. He loved to volunteer at The Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada Thrift Store and at The Nellis AFB Hospital. In 1999, he was honored as the VA of Southern Nevada Healthcare System Volunteer of the Year. In addition, he received a plaque from the “Department of Veterans Affairs” in recognition of 7500 hours of dedicated volunteer service to veterans.
In 2004, the Nevada Knights of Columbus named him Citizen of the Year “For Exemplary Service to Our Community”. Joseph also volunteered many hours in several roles at Catholic Churches. In his free time, he walked frequently, enjoyed reading and did the crossword puzzle each day.
His funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on February 9, 2024. The Mass will be live streamed at www.seaslv.org.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, 1501 Las Vegas Boulevard North, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
