Gregory Johnson Obituary

Celebrating the life of Greg Johnson

Greg Ray Johnson was born May 11, 1966, to Ray and LaNelle Johnson in Midland Texas. Greg graduated from Westfield High School and continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1989 with a BA in Economics. Afterwards he pursued a career in finance. He was a proud employee of Commercial Credit Group for 16 years earning top sales rep awards year after year. Greg was a diehard Longhorn fan. Greg loved all sports, especially college football and could recall play by play of any game ever aired on national television. To include the score, plays, dates the games were played and names of the athletes.

He loved being out in the sun and on the water with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed his time at the lake on his new fancy boat he needed help operating from his favorite second-hand Carter.

Greg was a loving dad, husband, brother, friend and favorite Uncle. Greg had unconditional love for his family. His love for his daughters could be seen from the sparkle in his eyes, beaming with pride. They truly were the joy of his life. Greg was living his best life surrounded by his family and best buddies. There wasn’t a day that went by he wasn’t floating in his pool, trying to hang out with his girls or having a drink with his buddies.

If you knew Greg, you knew a kind gentle man with a giving heart and an endless smile full of wit. He always had the best response to leave you joining him in a laugh.

It is with great sadness the family of Greg Johnson announce his passing on June 12th 2022.

He was proceeded in death by his dad Ray J, mom LaNelle, grandma VanZandt and grandma Dimples Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Katie, daughters, Leah and Lauren, sister, Denise Johnson, Uncle Ken, Uncle Harold, father-in-law and mother-in-law- Bernie and Bonnie Wegener, sisters-in-law and families, Kyle and Elizabeth Stephens, Keith and Megan Wilson, Dustin and Sarah Qualls, and his beloved nephews and nieces , Carter Qualls, Ben Stephens, Samantha Stephens, Kate Qualls and Beth Wilson.

Greg worked for me back in the early 90's at ORIX. I believe it was his first job after graduating from UT. He was so funny and a great guy. His nickname then was Mo because he was a big fan of Cool Mo Dee. I offer my sincerest condolences to his family.

My sincerest condolences to Greg's family and friends. To say he will be missed is truly the biggest understatement ever. I started with CCG nearly nine years ago and have valued Greg's kindness, willingness to help in any way needed and his tremendous capacity to care for those around him.

Know that his influence will survive his passing and all those who had the good fortune to spend time with him are better for that experience.

Shock and sadness at the loss of someone too soon. We were friends and colleagues for over 30 years sharing time together at ORIX and here at CCG. We last spoke about a week or so ago when he called to tell me of the passing of another colleague, Pat Miller.

Greg introduced me to the joys of tequila and we enjoyed wagering against each other’s teams when the Yankees and Astros were in the playoffs. The last one cost me a bottle of Don Julio 1942 – a favorite. (I told him I should get a refund because his team cheated - LOL). Despite our geographic distance we always found time for a call to catch up. I will sorely miss his good nature and fun-loving spirit.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Katie, daughters Leah and Lauren, and the rest of his family.

Sending my sincere condolences to Katie, Leah, Lauren and the Johnson family. I worked with Greg for the past 8 years and talked to him almost daily not just about work but our families. Greg talked about his family that he loved so much, I almost feel like I know you all. Greg was one of the most considerate, kind people I had the pleasure of knowing. He and I used to laugh about me calling him Mr. Johnson but that can tell you what kind of respect I had for him, he will be missed greatly. My family and I will keep you all in our prayers.

I have so many great memories of Greg. Many of them involve a beautiful day at the lake with family. Others are cold beer conversations beside the pool or a favorite hangout with friends. He was a man that was completely dedicated to his tribe. I'll always be proud to call him a friend. I'll miss you, buddy.
