Bill Adkins Obituary

Hurt…….Bill Junior Adkins, age 88 of Hurt entered his Heavenly home on Thursday, June 19, 2025.   


Born September 12, 1936 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late David Crockett Adkins, Sr. and Fannie Frances Gibson Adkins.  He was predeceased by three brothers, Buddy Wayne Adkins, J.B. Adkins and Emmett Adkins.  Mr. Adkins was a member of Hurt United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.  He was a retired supervisor of 21 years with Klopman Mills.  He loved antique car shows, Blue Grass Gospel music, riding around in his 1950 Ford and going on vacations with his family. Most of all Bill loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 


He is survived by his wife, Betty Simpson Adkins of the residence; one daughter, Rhonda A. Parsons and husband, Charles of Hurt; one granddaughter, Ashley Kaye Mayhew of Hurt; two brothers, Riley Adkins and wife, Sandra of Danville and David Adkins, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Ringgold; two sisters, Irene Tuck of Gretna and Carolyn Falls of Gretna; two sister-in-laws. Joy Adkins & Dot Adkins; two step-grandchildren, Jeremy Parsons and Ben Parsons and wife, Jill; numerous nieces and nephews and a great-granddog, “Hasa.”   


Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Betty Marshall and Rev. R.G. Rowland.  Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery.


The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00  a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home.

We are so sorry for your loss. Bill was an example of a great christian, husband, father, papa and true friend. He will be missed by so many people. We are so glad we were able to spend time with Bill and all of you on Bill & Betty's 67th anniversary. It was so special to us.
