Melba Jo Yielding Nabors Hurt, age 88, of Olden, Texas, passed away February 10, 2021 in San Marcos, Texas, at Brookdale Assisted Nursing Home.
Melba was born to Lowell Dick and Clara Mae Fox Yielding on June 9, 1932 in Eastland, Texas. She was raised with her two sisters, Faye Crawford and Wanda Colburn in Olden, Texas. Melba married Granvel Thomas Nabors and traveled throughout the United States while working on the Pipeline. They had three children, Connie, Gary, and David, and settled in Durango, Colorado. The family lived there until their children graduated from college, then moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, and finally, back to Olden, Texas.
Melba's career as a Medical Assistant for twenty-five years in Durango, Colorado was one she loved. Family and friends remember her enjoying snow skiing and tennis. She was an avid reader, sang in the church, enjoyed oil painting and watching the Dallas Cowboys. She volunteered as a Pink Lady in Hobbs, NM, and in Eastland, TX. She enjoyed working at the Public Library and volunteering at the Food Pantry. Melba assisted with organizing Olden High School reunions, as well as, the Fox Family Reunions, and worked on her family genealogy. She was active in the Church of Christ and in the Ladies Thursday afternoon Club.
Melba's passion was traveling She traveled throughout Europe, Mexico, and the United States with her daughter Connie, granddaughters Keely Smith, Haley Carr, and sisters, Faye and Wanda. Her family meant so much to her, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she called her "little Darlin's."
Melba is preceded in death by her parents, Lowell Dick and Clara Yielding, her sister Faye Crawford. Also, by her son David Randall Nabors, a great-grandson, Fitz Carr along with husbands, Granvel T. Nabors, and Dub Hurt.
Melba is survived by her daughter, Connie Jo Skidmore & husband Jerry. Her son, Gary Nabors & wife Paula, along with her daughter-in-law, Darby Nabors. Melba's eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Her sister, Wanda Colburn of Midland, TX, her niece, Cathy Richter, and nephews Jody Crawford and Scot Colburn.
Graveside services will be held at Merriman Cemetery, Olden, Texas at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice Care.
