Winona Ann "Nonie" Phillips passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at home. She was 76 years old.
Winona was born April 4, 1940, to Franklin Guy Frizell and Ruth Wilma (Noel) Frizell in Denver, Colorado. She grew up in La Plata County and attended Durango Schools. Nonie attended Fort Lewis College and obtained a bachelor's degree in English. She worked in Law Enforcement for the La Plata County Sheriff's Department and eventually retired from Williams Field Services.
Nonie was a gifted equestrian and of her many accomplishments, received a bronze medal in dressage and a Western Heritage Service award for her horse ownership.
She is survived by her children: Morgan (John) Detweiler, Duane (Linda) Parrie, Tyler (Leslie) Phillips, and William Robert (Shanna) Phillips; 12 grandchildren: Tammy, Ashley, Rebecca, Andreanna, Samantha, Rae, Jake, Natalie, Kisa, Keneth, Stacey and Shannon; 8 great-grandchildren:Audra, Madison, Aiden, Dalton, Kiya, Kenly, Devon, Jessie; 5 great-great-grandchildren: Emma, Weston, Melvin, Aydin, Syrus: and her brothers: Sam Frizell and Noel Frizell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her spouse: Robert James Phillips, a brother: Matt Frizell; and a son: Clint Ragsdale.
A memorial service will be held at the Arboles Baptist Church on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the ELHI Community Center or Annie's Orphans.

After many years of being out of touch, Nonie and I reconnected recently (around 2010) It was so nice to think about the good times of our young years. I was always awed by her equestrian trick riding talent and her ability to memorize long poems. May you all have the best of Nonie memories, as well.

Nonie was a great women who knew how to stand on her own two feet. She raised great kids and will truely be missed. She was and always will be a mother to all in blue.
