Ryan N. Jobes, 34, of Denver, passed away suddenly on March 29th, 2018. He was born Saturday, May 21st, 1983 in Greeley, Colorado to H. Brook and Robyn (Hall) Jobes.
He was a student athlete and graduate of Bayfield High School, where he excelled at track and cross country. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Metro State and a master's degree in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Denver.
Ryan fought for his country in a time of war as an Army combat engineer, building and securing some of the first forward operating bases in Iraq from 2003-2004.
He was married February 16th, 2003 shortly before deploying overseas. He and his former wife Rebecca (Evers) Jobes have two beautiful children, Riley (6) and Rhett (4).
Ryan was unlike most of us, he did not harden his heart. His caring, fragile soul could not reconcile the extremes of life: hiking in the San Juans versus fighting in a foreign war, the beauty of his children's birth against the injustice of poverty, an honest soul versus the souls of the corrupt and hateful.
His soul may have been troubled, but it was loving and beautiful. That is how we choose to remember him and we hope you will too.
A memorial will be held to honor Ryan from 12-3pm Saturday, April 7th at the Bayfield Lions Hall. If you feel like sending flowers, we ask that you instead donate that money to a mental health or veterans charity of your choice.

I'm thinking about you, Ryan, this evening. I know you are in a better place.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family Jobes! I hate that this has happened and wish there was more we all could have done as your fellow soldiers. I feel we have failed another friend. Your heart and your smile made everyone see innocence but we know the truth of the demons of war. We love our families but can't always stay strong enough to stay above the heavy past. Rest in peace.

I have very fond memories of my time with Ryan and remember him as a kind, loving, welcoming person. He was always my go to to talk with at gatherings when I was only Clare's new boyfriend. I was blessed to get to know him for a few years and in that span he drove me from Denver to Durango for Clare and I's wedding, taught me to ski in Steamboat, and was an amazing camping and hiking partner. He will be missed.

I knew Ryan for a brief time in Panama. I remember him playing the guitar on the front porch while the kids all rocked out. He had a bright spark in his eyes and such a sweet smile when he watched his kids whom he loved so much. I love his children and see his appreciation of nature and music, his kindness, and his sensitivity in them. Brian, Frances, I are sending our love and support to Ryan's family and friends.

So many of my high school memories have Ryan in them, especially those from cross country and track. I have memories of him and Rusty with their boom box at the back of the bus blasting Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" over and over and over again. He made Johnny cool in the 2000s! A cross country bus ride wasn't complete without that boom box! He was kind to everyone and pulled people in as a friend, even if they were younger than him, not into Johnny Cash as much as him, or not as fast of runners as him. His kindness and humor unified groups and people. He was a friend. And we will always miss that friend.

Ryan took several of my classes at Bayfield High, and he was one of my favorite students. I read this obituary early this morning, and this evening I am still at a loss for words. My sincere condolences to the Jobes family.

I was so sorry to read of Ryan's passing. I was his third grade teacher and I remember him well. He was sweet, a loyal friend,
and loved a good laugh. The last time I saw him was years ago in
Walmart, and Ryan was in uniform. He spoke to me by name, with
a big grin, and we talked for a bit. What a tender and nice young man. The world is diminished by his loss. My sympathy goes out to his family.

Family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks with you and I am praying for you often. Although I didn't know Ryan personally, I've heard enough stories to realize the impact his life had on so many.
Ryan, thank you for being a friend to my husband for so many years. I know that the memories you all created will be forever cherished. God bless.

Ryan Jobes will always be remembered as a sweet, sensitive young man, One of those kids who burrow into your heart and leave a lasting impression of goodness. I will miss him more than words can say. Best friend to my boys, along with Rusty Sanchez, from kindergarten on. Many happy memories watching them grow up to become fine young men, husband's, father's.
