Rolland Carl "Ron" Berg Obituary
Our beloved father, grandfather, and friend Rolland Carl "Ron" Berg returned to his maker on December 1, 2017 in Riverside, California. He was preceded to heaven by his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda (Lewis) Berg who passed in 2010. Ron was born in Denver, Colorado to LeRoy and Marie (Nolan) Berg on November 15, 1940. After graduating from Zion Lutheran School in Brighton, Colorado and attending Hudson Central High School, Ron joined the United States Air Force in 1958. While in the Air Force, he met Linda Lou Lewis of Galion, Ohio and they married on September 23, 1960. Shortly after they married, Ron was deployed to the USAF base in Newfoundland, Canada. He was honorably discharged in 1962. After serving in the Air Force, Ron worked as a silver miner in Leadville, CO and served as a Police Officer in Denver, Colorado. Ron found his professional calling when he joined Frontier Airlines in 1969. While working for Frontier Airlines, Ron was stationed in Denver, CO; Omaha, NE; and Gallup, NM. Starting in baggage handling, Ron rose through the ranks and was promoted to Station Manager in Durango, Colorado. While in Durango, Ron also served as a Reserve Deputy in the La Plata County Sheriffs Department. In 1984, Ron was promoted again to Station Manager in Rockford, IL. While in Rockford, Ron purchased a restaurant that brought his children, who had spread out across the country, back to the same city. He also tested into the University of Wisconsin chapter of MENSA. Ron later served in as Station Manager in Boston, MA and Great Falls, MT. After Frontier was bankrupted by corporate raiders in 1986, Ron started over, working in Los Angeles and obtaining his Bachelors Degree in Management and his Masters Degree in Business. He began working with Northwest Airlines in 1989. From 1990 to 1991, Ron returned to service in the US Air Force, assisting with Operation Desert Shield. He was awarded the equivalent rank of Major and earned the USAF Aerial Achievement Medal and Operation Desert Shield Citation. He later became Station Manager for Northwest Airlines in Ontario, CA before retiring in 2003. Ron will always be remembered for his humor - he delighted in playing pranks on his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his colleagues. He enjoyed golf, traveled extensively with Linda and his children, and had a soft spot for animals; but the love of his life was his wife of 50 years - Linda. Ron is survived by his 5 children; son Rolland Carl Berg Jr & wife Paula, daughter Sheryl Berg-Ridenour & husband John, son Tab Aaron Berg & wife Elizabeth, daughter Tammy Berg-Hillinger & husband Bill; son Lance Leroy Berg & wife Ratana. He had 10 grand children and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Bonnie (Berg) MacIntosh and brother Johnny. Services will held on December 15, 2018 @11:00 am at the Chapel/Akes Family Funeral Home (9695 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, CA 92503). Interment will be 1:00 pm at Riverside National Cemetery (22495 Van Buren Blvd. Riverside, CA 92518), where Ron will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Linda. The Berg-Ridenour family will host a brief gathering to share memories at their home in Riverside following the services. In lieu of flowers or condolences, the family has requested contribution be made to the Stroke Awareness Foundation Nana Fund. Contributions can be made online at www.strokeinfo.org/donate, or Checks can be sent in care of his son Tab Berg, 5016 Lena Way, Fair Oaks, CA 95628.
