Roberta Beach Parmley passed away January 11 in the late afternoon, in Moreno Valley California. Roberta was born Nov. 10 1926, in Bayfield, in the family home along Mill Street. Roberta graduated from Bayfield High School and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. Before graduating she married Harry H. Parmley, in 1947. They started their married life here in Durango, on 5th Street. Over the years they moved away many times, but always came back to Durango. Both their children graduated from Durango High School. Roberta and Harry attended the Community of Christ, beginning in 1950. Roberta played the piano and later the organ. They were one of the first to settle on the Rafter Subdivision off Wild Cat Canyon Road in 1968. Roberta later graduated with a double major from Ft. Lewis College in 1977. Over the years, Roberta held many different jobs such as working at the Agriculture Soil Conservation Service and the Durango Herald. Harry Parmley retired in 1980 from the Bureau of Reclamation and passed away in 1998. Roberta continued to live in the Durango area until she could no longer live alone. She moved to Moreno Valley, California to live with her son and his wife in 2011.
Roberta is survived by her two children, Gloria J. Hildman, of Denver, Colorado, and Gary D. Parmley, of Moreno Valley, California. She has six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Roberta's remains will be placed beside her husband in Pine River Cemetery, in Bayfield, Colorado.
