Robert Kabeary Obituary

Robert Allen Kabeary, Jr. 61, passed away December 1, 2018. He is survived by his partner Nanette Cresto, daughter Sailor, brother Kyle Shaw Kabeary, of Gulf Shores Alabama and his sister Reed Frances Kelley who resides in Lansing Michigan and his nieces Tara Frances Barnhill of Holt Michigan and Regan Marie Kelley of Lansing Michigan. Rob was preceded in death by his Father Robert Allen Kabeary and Mother Patricia Shaw Kabeary.
Robert was the founder and leader of the bakery Bread LLC in Durango and spent his life using his culinary talents and artistic sensitivity to engender love and nurture the deepening of community. He has lived in Durango since 2001 and was also a beacon of love and vitality in Sun Valley Idaho, Nantucket Island, Cambridge Massachusetts, Saratoga, New York, and Mt. Pleasant Michigan.
Rob attended Godard College and Central Michigan University. As a teenager, he lived in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan and graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School in 1975. He was a noteworthy athlete and was a multi-year varsity letterman in both basketball and tennis for his school.
Rob's education did not end at university. In fact those who knew him felt that he earned an advanced degree in empathy and caring for humanity through his extensive experience in Honduras, France, Mali, and Lesthoto, Africa. That is where the deepest reaches of Rob's spirit were forged.
Rob was born in St Petersburg Florida and also lived in Levittown, NY and Mclean Virginia before moving to the Detroit metropolitan area.
Rob challenged us all and nurtured and nourished each of us to give more to life, community and those in need. His musical and poetic sensibility in helping us to meet the challenges of life will continue to be revered and practiced by so many who he touched and by all of us who love him and honor his life.
The memorial service honoring Rob Kabeary will take place at Miller Middle School Auditorium Saturday, December 15th at 2:30 PM.
A celebration of Rob's life is being planned for early summer in the Durango region.

The very deepest condolences to Nanette and Sailor as well as the rest of Rob's family, and close friends and business associates, among them Jeffe. Such an unbelievable tragedy. Rob will always be remembered every time we walk in that bakery for the wonderful ciabatta or a gingerbread cookie...

Durango will definitely miss Rob. I remember how generous he was. Always giving away baked goodies for free.
We are sorry to hear of his passing.
May the family find strength during these difficult times in the comforting words of God found in Acts 25: 15.- Mary
