Julie Farago died peacefully at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital in Denver at the age of 69 on September 9, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones. We are extremely saddened by her passing after a 27-month bout with lymphoma and its ultimate complications. She fought valiantly to the very end and was by far the strongest and bravest person we ever knew. She was a constant inspiration to everyone around her: family, friends, acquaintances, fellow patients, medical staff and even total strangers. We will miss her desperately but our sadness will be tempered by having known her and her sometimes unorthodox ways for all of these years. She walked to the beat of her own drum and was always true to herself. She had several jobs over the years but her real passion was being a wife, mother and homemaker. When asked her occupation, she would half-seriously answer: "domestic engineer slash goddess".
Julie was born on January 22, 1946 in Kunbaja, Hungary to Mária and Mátyás Pölhe. Her family fled Hungary in 1946 and ultimately immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1950. She graduated from Cleveland West High in 1964 and attended Cleveland State University for two years. Julie had two beautiful daughters from her first marriage to John Cook.
In 1985, she married the love of her life, Charles P. Farago. Julie and Chuck celebrated their 30th anniversary the Saturday before her passing. They lived a good life and she helped him raise and guide his two children from a previous marriage. The two of them left Cleveland in 1999 and settled in Bayfield, Colorado where she lived out the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother, Tibor Polhe. She is survived by her husband; by her daughter Heather J. Pochatek and husband Brian of Castlerock, CO; by her daughter Lori J. Ladd, husband David and grandson Jacob of Portland, OR; by her stepson Charles G. Farago and his daughter Sophie of Lakewood, CO; and by her stepdaughter Kristina E. Wilson, grandson Tonka and granddaughter Tea of Medford, OR.
The immediate family held a celebration of Julie's life in Castlerock, CO on September 10th and 11th. No local celebrations or services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julie's honor to Mercy Health Foundation, 1010 Three Springs Blvd., Durango, CO 81301.
