Grieving the loss of our friend, Donna Jo Blake. I have danced with Donna Jo for six years. She supported me in so many ways over the years Truly an amazing woman.
I would love witness to my poem dedicated to her, this time we had, the community. Thank you.
I was curled in
an embryonic position.
I could barely move.
I remember it, vividly.
I arrived weak;
my body ached.
I lied there, alone.
Afraid.
Waiting
to dance
again.
The soft music
began to crescendo,
oh, so sweetly,
in the distance.
I peeked open
my eyes,
as the shadows
brushed against
the light.
In front of me,
were beautiful,
dancing
butterflies,
emerging
from their
cocoons.
And it was there
I found you...
kind, gentle
selfless.
You danced
around the edges
with grace.
Your spirit
echoed gratitude,
and joy illuminated
the space.
Your wings
were always
open.
It was then,
I began to move.
And we danced.
Danced and danced.
We were
suspended in
time,
it seemed.
We didn't imagine
you would have
to leave us so
soon.
Too soon.
Here again,
I lie
in fetal position,
tears
fall
down
my
cheek.
I feel your spirit.
I still hear the
sweet melody.
I know you
are dancing
around us.
I know you
are here
radiating
all of your
love.
I love you Donna Jo. Thank you for our dance.

Dr. Blake was a wonderful, thoughtful, hardworking, fighter for the people she cared for, and for the people she worked with at the VA. To the family and the caregivers who were fortunate enough to work with her, I send my deepest condolences. She is loved and missed.

I am very shocked and saddened to hear of Donna's passing. She was my first neighborhood friend, approximately 1956. So happy we had a chance to reunite in the past couple of years and had a few messages between us in that time. Sincere condolences to her family.

I knew Donna through dancing Nia, we did our White Belt training together last year. She was a beautiful human being. The joy she brought to the class was infectious, and we all loved her insights and discussions about all aspects of life. She talked freely about her love for her family and friends. I will miss her greatly. Sending healing prayers to your family.
