Bettie M. Wittevrongel passed away Sunday April 22nd at the age of 93, due to natural causes. Bettie was born Bettie Maxine Knox in Southern California to Alpha and Thomas Knox on July 13, 1924. She was married to Paul Wittevrongel of Durango, who preceded her in death 5 years ago. They were happily married for 50 years and lived a full and exciting life.

Bettie is survived by her niece Norma Mulligan and her husband Terry, great nieces Kelly Kniffin and husband Rick all of Durango, and Kerry Adams and her husband Ross of La Gatos, CA and Krista Brundage of Montrose, CO. She also has 4 great, great Nieces; Kendall and Brooke Kniffin of Durango, Allie Adams of Los Gatos and Kaia Brundage of Montrose. Bettie and her husband Paul, moved to Durango 7 years ago after living 25 years in Leisure World in Mesa, AZ where they enjoyed a very active, retired life playing golf and traveling with friends and family.

Prior to Bettie's marriage to Paul, she was executive secretary to the superintendent of schools in Culver City, CA. After Bettie's marriage to Paul she became an enthusiastic homemaker, she loved to entertain, was an avid seamstress, and active volunteer.

Bettie, and her sweet Maltese dog, Fifi, were known and loved by the residence and caregivers at Sunshine Gardens. Bettie offered her wisdom and willingness to listen and encourage others. Known even in her 90's as a fashionable dresser with class and style, giving many admirers inspiration.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation for the loving care gives of Sunshine Gardens and Hospice; they truly are special caring people.
