Lifelong area resident Randy Dale Mathews died Monday, June 25, 2012, in La Plata County. He was 42. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Mr. Mathews was born to Marvin R. Mathews and Charleen Fay Randolph on Oct. 12, 1969, in Miami, Ariz.
On April 1, 2009, he married Melissa Renee Owens in Las Vegas.
Mr. Mathews had served with the Cortez Police Department, was a member of the Mancos Volunteer Fire Department and coached football in Mancos.
"He enjoyed hunting, carpentry and horse races, but his family meant the world to him," his family said.
Mr. Mathews is survived by his wife, Melissa Mathews, of Mancos; children Hannah Mathews and Cutter Mathews, both of Cortez, and Sierra Wilson and Zane Wilson, both of Mancos; mother, Charleen Randolph, of Cortez; siblings Jody Randolph and Mike Mathews, both of Cortez, and Darren Kramer, Kierra Fury and Alan Mathews, all of Mancos; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Old Mancos High School Gymnasium.
