Norris Rose Obituary

R. Norris Rose went home to be with his Lord Fri, Jan. 26, 2018. He was a devoted husband of 61 years to the love of his life, Nelda, and a wonderful father to Dayna, Don and Laurie. He took great delight in his 4 grandchildren: Sherie, David, Ian, and Rob, and his great-grandchildren. He was an avid skier and hiker and loved most sports, playing and coaching baseball and football. He was especially fond of music, singing with the Durango Choral Society and doing some choir directing as well.
Norris was known for his generous and giving spirit, and lived out his Christianity by helping others in need as much as he could... shoveling snow, driving cancer patients to treatment, working with the handicap ski program, etc.
Norris loved his country and served it well as a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force, then Air National Guard.
He was born March 17, 1933 and always looked forward to his St. Patrick's Day birthday celebration with green cake! He will be missed... but we will see him again!
A memorial service will be held Fri, Feb. 2, 2018 at 1st United Methodist Church of Durango at 11:00am.

Hey grandpa. Ian and and I saw grandma the other day in Fort Worth, TX and were missing you. Think about you often. Ian says he is more like you every day.

From the first time we met, grandpa was very nice and welcoming to me. Staying at the Rose house, grandpa was very generous as he always paid for our dinners when we went out and took us jeeping up the mountain in their 4 runner. I knew him as a young man in an older man's body as he almost beat my husband and I in basketball. He used to always say confounded and loved talking politics.
I have much respect for him as he raised my husband who if anyone knows Ian, is just as stubborn as is grandfather. You now can hike and ski without the restrictions of age, rest in peace grandpa. Always remember you forever.

My sincere sympathy to the family. Please find comfort in the words at 1 Thessalonians 4:14.

So very sorry for your loss Dayna, I have never forgotten the Easter at Christian Center in Boulder City, NV when he directed the choir. One song.that he taught us was There's Just Something About That Name. When I have trouble sleeping, I sing it to myself and it comforts me and I think about the choral concert that he directed. God bless you and all your family and give my love to your dear mother.
