Jane Periman Obituary

Jane Periman passed peacefully in her sleep on January 4, 2019. She is survived by her sister, Maurine Moore; her children Kenneth Periman, Devon (Hal) Burke, and Nanci (Kenton) Cox; her grandchildren Logan Burke, Kendall Cox, Kyle Cox, and Dominick Soucy; two great granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Gomer and Helen O'Dell, her daughter Shannon Soucy, and her brothers Robert O'Dell and Richard O'Dell. Jane was born to Gomer and Helen (Oldaker) O'Dell on January 17, 1929 in Lamar Colorado. She attended the University of Colorado - Boulder where she graduated with a degree in English. She raised her family in Durango and Fort Collins before settling in Durango along the Animas River. Her home was always open to friends and family and became the magnet for all the neighborhood kids. Jane worked as a substitute teacher and as a singing hostess at the Strater Hotel. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Democratic Party. Her passions were reading, singing with the church choir, and performing in local musicals. After moving to Pueblo in her later years, she was nominated as a 2017 Colorado State Silver Queen candidate and sang "Sentimental Journey" for her talent segment. She did not win the crown but had a wonderful time and was selected Miss Congeniality.

As she donated her body to science, there will be no funeral services. A family remembrance will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Fort Lewis College music department, to the University of Colorado theater department, or to the First Presbyterian Church choir.

Jane was a dear friend who brightened the lives of all who knew her. She was fierce about always seeing the bright side of life, loved/missed her choir in Durango but rightly won the congeniality prize at the Colo State Fair. I will miss her alot; "she was a sunshine, a special sunshine; make you happy when skies got gray"! Keep up your marvelous melodies, girlfriend...and thanks for your life here. I love you!

Jane Periman was a mentor to me and I have missed seeing her in Durango. I am friends with her children and she always welcomed me and so many others to her home. She had great intellect and was an awesome story teller. She was unique and truly one-of-a-kind. She added to the culture of the Durango community. My life is better because I knew Jane. My heartfelt sympathy to her children, grandchildren and other family and friends.
