Grace Erikson was born March 25, 1915 and passed away on July 30, 2018.
A doctor with a black bag, driving a horse drawn buggy, went to Grace's parents' farm in Kersey, Colorado.
Grace left this world the way she wanted to, in her own bed, inside her "mud hut" as she called her home in Red Mesa with her cats and the people she loved beside her, calm and rested after 103 years.
The events that happened between the dates of her life are way too numerous to list here. Grace didn't want any fuss made about her passing, but I will fuss a bit. She was a teacher of hundreds or even thousands of kids in the Durango area, Miller Junior High, Florida and Fort Lewis Mesa and many schools on the Navajo reservation. Hundreds of students and families knew Grace from these schools alone. So for these students that read this with a smile and those who read this with a frown: Grace was Grace and Miss Erikson was your teacher.
Grace will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10:00am at the Kline Cemetery.

My favorite teacher. I remember changing my science teacher at Miller Jr. High to get into her class. The first day in her class I guess I was visiting with a classmate and Mrs. Erickson said "Miss Allan, since you wanted to be in my class so badly I would think that you would listen to me." I was mortified! RIP Mrs. Erickson.

Truly a one of a kind lady. So enjoyed her stories when she visited the library in Durango over the many years. I have missed her visits, her wit and her charm.

We respected and loved this woman. An incredible artist, teacher, human being, and friend. To us, she represented an alpha female, fierce, protective, and strong. She created incredible panoramas for our music programs at Ft. Lewis Mesa. Her bulletin boards were layers of students' work and her inspiration. We will always remember her with much love.

Sweet, kind, wonderful Mrs. Erikson! You were a strict, no nonsense substitute teacher, but a kind, good hearted woman! I enjoyed growing up near you in Redmesa! It was fun to get to know you as I matured from a bratty little girl to an adult! You made the world a better place, and you will be missed! Rest in peace dear lady!

Always loved having Grace substitute for me at FLM because you knew there'd be no tomfoolery while away and the kids would get a fabulous art lesson. A true lady. Grace lived her life well.
