David Genge Obituary

David Scott Genge lived his life with love for his family, faith in God, and a quirky sense of humor. Born December 11, 1956, in Lincoln, Neb., he grew up primarily in Garden Grove, Calif., and graduated from Pacifica High School and Cal State Fullerton. He worked most of his career in accounting and information technology but recently enjoyed working at Mercy Hospital.
He married the love of his life, Marti (Charon) in 1984, and they were blessed with two children Brittany and A.J.
He loved playing his early 1970s Rickenbacker bass guitar - still in mint condition - and lighting up his neighborhood with Christmas lights. He was an avid fan of the Razorbacks, Indy car racing, and science fiction movies.
He is survived by his wife, Marti Genge of Bayfield, daughter and son-in-law Brittany & Caleb Christie of Arkansas, son A.J. Genge of Durango, mother Mildred (Gealy Genge) Esten and numerous siblings, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Edwin Genge and stepfather Ralph "Pete" Esten.
He died suddenly on December 19, 2017 from a previously unknown heart defect, but all who knew him recognized that he had a special heart.
The Rosary will be held at St. Columba Catholic Church at 6:30 pm Tuesday, December 26. A funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, December 27 at 10 am, followed by a graveside service at Greenmount Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, 1800 E. 2nd Avenue, Durango, CO 81301.

Not sure what to say?

I knew David when we worked at National Education in Newport Beach California during the 1970's. I just happened to come across this obituary today. David had such a great sense of humor and I thought of him as a friend. So sad to find out he passed almost a year ago but looks like he had a wonderful life. I see in his picture he still had that great smile. I remember he really loved the tv show Mork & Mindy and even came to work one halloween dressed as Mork! RIP David

I will forever owe David a debt of gratitude for taking me on his team at Transplace, thus allowing me to emigrate to the USA. He was the epitome of an effective manager, always an open-door policy, willing to listen and advise, but demanding of professionalism. I remember David as funny, kind, and warm-hearted person. I will not be the only one to recall his Christmas decorations and yearly get-togethers, that were always full of cheer. To Marti, A.J., and Brittany - my family's most sincere condolences for the loss of such a wonderful man. May all of you find peace after this sudden, tragic loss.

I am very sorry for your loss, loosing a loved one is truly a heartbreaking experience, but its uplifting to know that God promises us in Isaiah 65:17 a near future in which not only wont we feel the pain of loosing a loved one anymore but we wont even remember how it felt. Our pain will be erased and we will be happy once again.
