A lifetime resident of Ignacio, Alberta Louise Pargin, passed away at Hospice House of Mercy in Durango, on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.
She was born to Albert and Tennie Larsen on June 6, 1926 in Dulce, NM. She graduated from Bayfield High School, then attended Fort Lewis College and Pueblo School of Nursing and did training at St Mary Corwin Hospital.
After World War II she married Charley F. Pargin in Durango and then moved to the Pargin Ranch. Together they had 3 children, Paula Kay, Vicki Louis and Stephen Charles.
Alberta was awarded a 20 year pin as a 4-H leader and received a Pioneer Award. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and teaching. She even made both daughter's wedding dresses. Her son-in-law, Bob Witt always said, "She made the best rolls and rhubarb jam in the country!" She got her teaching degree in 1967 from Fort Lewis College and began teaching 2nd grade at Ignacio Elementary. She then went on to graduate from UNC in Greeley with a Master's degree in Library Science.
She is survived by her 3 children: Paula (Bob) Witt, Vicki and Stephen (Laura) Pargin; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brother, Alfred "Bud" Larsen; sister Joyce Wick, as well as extended family, including cousins, Dotty Wayt and her son Brad Wayt and family, Glenda Payne Hocker and family.
There will be a service on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10am at the Pine River Valley Baptist Church, with Pastor Randall Haynes officiating. Burial will follow services at the Allison Tiffany Cemetery.

Mrs. Pargin was my teacher and made such an impact. There is no doubt she will be missed. I thank her for her time and sacrifice so many years ago. May God be with you and fill your heart with memories.
