Rex Paul Doyle, 60, of the Woodlands, TX and Durango, CO, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 27th, 2019.
Born in Rochester, PA on July 20, 1958, Rex was a 1981 graduate of The Ohio State University, earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. In 1990, he received his MBA degree from the University of Michigan.
In August of 1981, Rex married Susie McNaughton, his high school sweetheart, and the newlyweds began what they lovingly called their "great adventure".
New Orleans was the first stop where Rex joined Texaco as both a gas and production engineer. After earning his MBA, Rex entered United Technologies' Leadership Development Program which led to executive management roles with Carrier Corporation, first in Louisville, KY and eventually Houston, TX.
Rex then took on a management position with Enron before joining Michael Baker Corporation's Pittsburgh, PA headquarters. In 2002 the Doyles returned to Houston, with Rex joining Baker's Energy Services Group.
In 2009, the Doyles headed to Durango, CO when Rex was hired by the Southern Ute Growth Fund. He became President of Red Cedar Gathering first and most recently, Red Cedar Production Company.
An avid and accomplished golfer, Rex was a member of both the Woodlands County Club and the Dalton Ranch Country Club in Durango, CO. With three holes-in-one and his sights always set on more, Rex tackled some of the world's most prestigious courses, including Scotland's St. Andrews and the legendary Pebble Beach. Rex's golf exploits brought him many valued friendships, especially those with his EMT group buddies and Dalton Ranch golf gang. He also shared his love of the game with his daughter, Megan.
Like his father before him, Rex could repair just about anything. He also had a passion for woodworking and design. From furniture to landscaping, Rex enjoyed brining his visions to life. Most recently he conceived and created a beautiful outdoor living area at his beloved Durango home.
Rex is survived by his wife, Susie; daughter, Megan; mother Mary (Honey) Doyle; father-in law, Jack McNaughton; his brothers, Frank (Karen), Eric (Kathy); his sister, Tracy Thompson (Art), sister-in-law, Jacquie Catanzarite (Al); as well as nephews, Nate and Dante Catanzarite and Ian Oldenburg; and nieces, Lauren Doyle and Carolyn Thompson. He is also survived by a very special aunt, Laura (Sissy) Doyle and his dog, Lucy. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Doyle, and his mother-in-law, Marlene McNaughton.
Visitation will be held April 4th, 2019 from 5PM - 8PM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 1800 Interstate 45 S, The Woodlands, TX 77384, where a memorial service will also be held on April 5th, at 10:30 AM.
Rex will always be remembered for his quick wit, competitive spirit, joy for life and compassion for friends and family, old and new. He will be dearly missed by all.
