S. Stephen Sidner Obituary

Scottsdale, AZ
S. Stephen Sidner, 80, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018, at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Steve was born September 7, 1937, in Kearney, NE, the firstborn child of Seymour Stephen Sidner and Jeannette (Dunbar) Sidner. Steve and his younger brother Bob grew up in Kearney and attended school there. After high school, Steve enrolled at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity and Naval ROTC. Steve graduated from Northwestern in 1959. Steve began his career in Rockford, IL with National Gypsum. His son Scott was born in Rockford in 1960, and in 1962 the family moved to Indianapolis. Steve remained in Indianapolis for many years building a long and successful career with American Olean, a subsidiary of National Gypsum. On June 24, 1978, Steve married Janie Tam in Indianapolis. The couple lived there until moving to Scottsdale in 1984. Steve and Janie loved skiing and world travel, as Janie has said, "Steve showed me the world." He was devoted to his wife Janie and son Scott.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Seymour and Jeannette Sidner, and his brother, Robert Dunbar Sidner. He is survived by his wife Janie; son Scott of Durango, CO; and nieces and nephews Sam and Ann Sidner of Lincoln, NE; Dan and Jeanne Sidner of Wauwatosa, WI; Susan and David Carlebach of Salt Lake City, UT; and Jennifer and Dan Lukas of Big Sky, MT; and their families.

There will be a private gathering in Steve's memory later this spring in Scottsdale.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the DU Building Fund at Northwestern University.
