Former longtime Durango resident, Lida Piccoli Bowen, 90 died on Sept. 17, 2017 at Mesilla Valley Hospice of complications due to a stroke. She was born Sept. 14, 1927 in Albany, N.Y to James and Henrietta Piccoli. In 1945 the family moved to Durango, Co. where her father and brother, Gino started the Eagle Block Co. She went to work for Earl V. Mason Ins. Co., which was later purchased by Gene Spotts. She then worked for the law office of Wm. Eakes and Ben Hamilton and later for Amerada Petrolium Corp. during the oil boom in 1960s in the Four Corners area. After the company moved, she worked for the Bank of Durango which was owned by the Richard (Dick) Turner family and which is now Wells Fargo Bank. After leaving the bank, she and her husband, Jim Bowen, started Taylor Rental in Bodo Industrial Park. After their divorce and selling the business, she went back to work at the bank, which at the time was United Banks of Colorado and upon retiring from there, worked briefly for Eagle Block Co. as office manager. She then moved to Las Cruces, NM to be near her daughter.
Lida was a member of the Alpha Xi Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and helped plan and participate in their state convention when it was held in Durango. She loved skiing at Purgatory ski area, was socially active and had many friends she loved. She was previously married to Larry Koshak and Alex Garcia.
In Las Cruces, Lida took complete advantage of retirement and enjoyed not working. She was an avid reader and spent countless hours at the library. She took literature and computer classes at the community college where she met her best friend, Ena Larsen. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family. She will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her Son Robert Koshak, her brothers Gino and Anthony Piccoli, and sister Gloria Wolfe. She is survived by her daughter Lauren Hartley and husband John, her sister-in-law Wilma Piccoli and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial will be held at a later date. The family can be reached at 251 Hanks Dr. Las Cruces, NM 88005.
