Ron Bodo Obituary

Ron Bodo, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully, in his sleep on August 16, 2018 of leukemia. He was born March 8, 1939 in Durango, CO to Vernon I. and H. Beatrice Bodo. He grew up in Durango and, as a very young boy, started helping his grandfather and uncle on their Ridges Basin Ranch outside of Durango. In 1955, the family moved to Albuquerque where Ron attended Highland High School for his Jr. and Sr. year. He attended the University of NM until he was drafted into the Army during the Berlin Wall crisis and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany where his son was born. Upon his Army discharge, he completed college at Ft. Lewis in Durango. He worked for Sandia National Laboratory in the Audit Dept. for 13 years. Following his early retirement from Sandia, he moved to Texas where he worked for Haliburton for 15 years. His employment as Internal Auditor enabled Ron and Carroll to travel all over the world which they enjoyed immensely. Having learned to ski at a very young age, he was an avid and accomplished skier. Along with competitive racing and being a ski instructor in high school and college, he was on the Safety Team, and Ski Patrol at NM and Colorado ski areas. Ron loved music and enjoyed playing a four-string guitar, a ukulele, and the harmonica. In addition, he loved helping family, friends, and even strangers in need. As a small example, during snow storms, he could often be seen plowing out neighbors with his beloved antique Kubota tractor. Helping others brought him great joy. He is survived by his wife, Carroll; son, Michael Bodo and wife, Christine; daughter, Cindy Bodo Harkins and husband, Dakota; step-son, Michael Jack and wife, Dawn; step-daughter, Jami Eggleston and husband, Barry. He is also survived by his brother, Randy Bodo, and his sister, Kristen Bodo Smith and husband, Tony Phillips, as well as 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to family, he will be greatly misses by the numerous friends with whom Ron and Carroll made long- lasting relationships during their 37 years of marriage. Ron's friends would agree he was a very unique and caring human being. The world is better place because he lived . Private family Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Ron's life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, 6100 Indian School Rd. N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87110 or online at LLS.org. Please visit our online guestbook for Ron at www.FrenchFunerals.com

I worked with Ron in London during his time with Halliburton. Yes, we did some auditing together, but our time together seemed to be more focused on ‘partying’...... Ron & Carroll entertained me many times in my various trips to Dallas in the late ‘80s and when I moved on from my audit role in London (1989) Ron, (accompanied by Carroll) temporarily managed the London Audit Group until a permanent local manager was appointed. Ron & Carroll rented a friend’s small cottage on Wimbledon Common, where we had even more memorable times. Ron was a great & supportive colleague and over time, became a great friend; I’m so sorry I lost touch with him & Carroll when I eventually left Halliburton in 1999.
I offer my somewhat belated condolences to Carroll and to their children, who regretfully I did not meet.

Ron's passing is sad news for all the Olsons, and we send our deepest condolences to all the Bodos. We were privileged to know four generations of Bodos and Rowes, and you all live on in our hearts. Randy, I remember your brother teaching us how to catch football passes when we were about 9, and he was a big shot high schooler. I also think of the Jeepster he drove in those days. He will be well remembered always. Vayan con Dios to you all. Tom Olson
