Dick Carmack passed this life into life eternal on May 14, 2018 He was 87 years of age.
Carmack was born January 1, 1931 in Gem Village, Colorado to Walter and Mary Lena Carmack, the last of 12 children. He was preceded in death by his parents and all eleven of his brothers and sisters. He and his wife, Verna Ruth Rinker Carmack were married 60 years (April 5, 1958) and the parents of five daughters, Jimmie Daun (Wendell) Wells of Claunch, NM; Bobbie Ruth (Donald) Fairlamb of Bear Lake, MI; Beverly Lois (David) Whalen of Enon Valley, PA; Tiffany Gaye (Paul) Jones of Garcia, CO and Toni Lee (Joel) Tetreau of Gilbert, AZ.
The Carmacks have 35 grandchildren and 26 Great grands (as of last count). Also numerous nephews and nieces survive. Carmack spent the first 25 years of his married life either owning or editing five different country newspapers, various sales jobs and also spent several years as part owner of Permatank Engineering of Eloy, AZ. He also owned either fully or partially several other small businesses in the SW United States.
Carmack was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in that country during the years 1951-52 and was also a survivor of an atom bomb test in Nevada in the spring of 1953.
At the age of 51 Carmack realized his lost condition, was saved forever and became a Bible believing Christian. After that he became a Creation Evangelist and at age 60 God called him to preach. He and Verna founded the Storehouse Food Bank (later Storehouse Baptist Church) of Durango, CO and after 12 years planted Little Brown Church, Aztec, NM., where he served as Pastor for eight years. At age 81 He and wife Verna retired to Claunch, NM where he remained active in Christian work and church attendance.
Dick Carmack leaves a legacy of a changed life in Jesus Christ. Before salvation he was a restless man pursuing he knew not what. After salvation his life became centered around his faith. He leaves behind (hopefully not forever) many friends and associates. He wrote his own obituary and insisted it be published exactly as written.
